Our craft cocktail journey begins with one of the most popular vodka cocktails in the world – Cosmopolitan cocktail or a Cosmo. It is super easy to make but at the same time most of the bartenders and mixologysts mess it up. There is million wrong ways to make this beautiful and refreshing drink and only one proper way. I will try to show you how to make it the classic way and convince you that this is the right thing to do in order to keep the original recipe and keep your bar guest or friends and family happy whenever you try to make it. Lets start with a little history first.
Who is the real creator of Cosmopolitan Cocktail and When was this drink created?
The Cosmopolitan was firs seen in few locations in 1980s including New York and San Francisco. If we want to be very specific, we might give credit to a bartender named Cheryl Cook who actually made this drink in Miami Beach early 80s. However the most credit should go to Dale DeGroff who is the main reason of making this craft cocktail one of the most popular drink in every bar in the world. He was credited by New York Magazine and actually created the standard recipe that most of the mixologysts use even today.
So after the cosmo was created there were few key moments the make this cocktail explode and became super famous. First was Madonna who was seen drinking Cosmopolitan in the early 80s. And of course we should give credit to the TV show “Sex And The City” where this cocktail was heavily promoted becoming a signature Manhattan night cocktail. The rest is a history.
Ok so now we know who created the Cosmopolitan cocktail and who popularize. Now lets see how we can actually make one….
